Snow-Sure Slopes: The Climate and When to Go

Thanks to its high altitude (1850m) and its position in the heart of the Alps, Les Menuires boasts a fantastic snow record.

The Season: The lifts typically crank into action from early December and run right through to late April.

Best Time to Visit: For the best combination of reliable snow cover and sunny days, you can't beat January and March. January is often colder with fantastic powder, while March offers longer, sunnier days and superb spring skiing conditions. Christmas, New Year, and the February school holidays are prime time but expect more people on the slopes. April is fantastic for bargain hunters and those who love soft, forgiving spring snow.

Preparing for your holiday

Layer Your Clothing

Invest in a good layering system for your clothing to keep warm and dry on the slopes. Start with moisture-wicking base layers, followed by insulating mid-layers and finish with a waterproof outer shell to shield you from the elements.

Book Ski Passes in Advance

Buying your ski passes ahead of time can save you money and time on the slopes. Many resorts offer discounts for early bookings, so it’s worth looking into options before you arrive.

Once you're ready to progress, the "Easy Rider" pass gives you access to a network of gentle green and blue runs. This is where Les Menuires truly shines. You have two massive sectors to explore. The west-facing slopes towards Saint-Martin-de-Belleville and Méribel are drenched in afternoon sun and offer a huge network of cruising blue and red runs. Don't miss the famous Jerusalem piste – a long, rolling red that's an absolute joy to ski. On the other side, the Pointe de la Masse sector offers incredible north-east facing slopes, meaning the snow stays in perfect condition. It used to be an expert's secret, but a new network of blue runs means intermediates can now ski from the very top to the bottom, enjoying quieter pistes and epic scenery.

03 - For the Experts & Freestylers

Unleash the Beast

Ready to test your legs? Head straight for the black runs off the top of La Masse – they are genuinely steep, challenging, and often have fantastic snow. For powder hounds, Les Menuires has three designated "Liberty Ride" zones – these are patrolled but ungroomed off-piste areas, perfect for enjoying fresh powder in a safer environment. For park rats, the Pixel Area has a snowpark with kickers and rails for all levels (XS to L) and a fantastic boardercross track to race your mates on. And of course, with a full Three Valleys pass, the legendary couloirs of Courchevel and the off-piste of Val Thorens are just a couple of lifts away.
